Patient Specific Stem Cells and AMD – in collaboration with Georgetown University

Active Study

For many years, we have known there is some correlation between one’s DNA makeup and Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). This trial will study the mechanisms and biomarkers associated with AMD in families of different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds. Blood samples are taken to study mechanisms and biomarkers related to AMD by generating patient-specific stem cells and differentiated RPE cells, in order to identify the genes that, when mutated, demethylated or aceytylated, cause AMD and neurodegeneration. This study is open for enrollment in our Chevy Chase office in Maryland and our Fairfax office in Virginia.
